Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) finally ended their six-match losing streak beating Mumbai Indians (MI) by 34 runs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Although they have got the lifeline in the tournament, the atmosphere in the dressing seems to be not okay. Senior statesman Andre Russell recently questioned the team’s strategy, and skipper Dinesh Karthik has finally responded to the comments.

Eden Gardens witness a high-scoring encounter as Kolkata posted 232 runs after asked to bat first. Chris Lynn and Shubman Gill added 96 runs for the first wicket before Andre Russell continued his blistering form to entertain the Kolkata crowd. He remained unbeaten on 80 runs from just 40 deliveries to help his team post an almost impossible target to chase. However, Mumbai Indians almost pulled off the impossible with Hardik Pandya playing the innings of his life. He struck everything at his disposal hitting nine towering six and six boundaries. However, Harry Gurney removed Pandya (91) in the 18th over to clinch the tie.

Karthik replies to Russell’s comments

Meanwhile, ahead of the game, Andre Russell criticised the bowlers for not contributing consistently. He even questioned the Kolkata management’s decision not to promote him in the batting order and said that the team needs flexibility when it comes to batting positions in crucial outings. Moreover, Dinesh Karthik has also come under the scanner for a few tactical faults which have hurt the tea. But at the end of the tie against Mumbai, Karthik said that he will ensure that no bickering and back-biting goes on in the dressing room.

It’s a high-pressure sport, a high octane tournament and you’ve got to make sure everybody’s in a great space, give them the best chance to do well and stay healthy. A lot of bickering and back-biting can go on in these sorts of situations. I’m very aware of it and make sure nothing like that happens,” Karthik said.

In conclusion, Dinesh Karthik said that it is just a game and everyone is trying hard to give their best shot. Next up, Kolkata Knight Riders face Kings XI Punjab on May 3 at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.
