With just one wins in eight games, Royal Challengers Bangalore are all but out of the race for a World Cup spot. The three-time finalists now need nothing less than a miracle to progress ahead of the group stage. The one man who they really need if they are to make it to the playoffs is their skipper Virat Kohli. Kohli has already guided the Royal Challengers to playoffs singlehandedly once.

In 2016, when the Royal Challengers were more or less in a similar situation, he had hit four centuries to pave the way for a stunning playoff spot. Kohli had scored a staggering 973 runs in that season, helping the Royal Challengers make it to the final where they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad. No surprises then that the Royal Challengers will be desperately hoping their skipper rediscovers that form and help them turn their season around.

However, the Royal Challengers could see their captain miss games in the upcoming days. The reason behind it is that Kohli is in danger of getting ban in case the Royal Challengers are found guilty of slow over-rate two more times. The Royal Challengers skipper had to pay a hefty fine of INR 12 lakh after his team could not complete its quota of overs during the win over Kings XI Punjab last week. As a result, the India skipper is in danger of missing games in the remaining part of the IPL.

A second offence over-rate would result in a fine of INR 24 lakh for the captain and of INR 6 lakh or 25% of the match fee from every other player in the team, whichever is lesser. A third offence will cost the captain INR 30 lakh and a ban from the team’s next game, while each player in the XI will be fined INR 12 lakh or 50% of the match fee, whichever is lesser.
