IPL 2020 Auction To Go Ahead As Planned Despite Protests Over CAA

In the latest development, the players’ auction for the lucrative Indian Premier League will go ahead as scheduled in Kolkata on Thursday in spite of the strong protests over the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). There have been widespread reports of infamous violence in West Bengal but Kolkata hasn’t been affected.
It has been learnt that Delhi Capitals’ team management that will be representing the franchise at the upcoming auction will be arriving Kolkata on Tuesday to start their final preparation. Delhi Capitals have already drafted in Ravichandran Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane ahead of the auction.

IPL auctions to go ahead as scheduled: BCCI official
A senior Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official on the condition of anonymity told news agency PTI confirmed that IPL auctions are on and franchises will start reaching the destination on time. “As of Monday evening, IPL auctions are on. Franchises will start arriving by tomorrow evening and Wednesday morning,” he said.
As many as 332 players will go under the hammer at the mega IPL auction in Kolkata on December 19. The cricketers are all looking forward to being a part of the all-important day. 215 capped players, 754 uncapped and 2 players from Associate Nations are aiming to fill the available 73 spots to be filled in the eight IPL franchises as this year’s auction will be a small one.

Capped Indian (19 players), Uncapped Indian (634 players), Uncapped Indian who have played at least 1 IPL game (60 players), Capped International (196 players), Uncapped International (60 players), Associate (2 players).
The amended Citizenship law, which seeks to offer citizenship to non-Muslim religious minorities from countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh has finally been met with constant protests across north-east and West Bengal.
