SunRisers Hyderabad’s journey in IPL 2020 came to an end on Sunday with a 17-run defeat to Delhi Capitals in the second qualifier. Delhi will now take on Mumbai Indians in the final on November 10.

Chasing 190, SRH finished on 172 for 8. Kane Williamson, who scored a match-winning fifty in the Eliminator, scored another fifty but could not take his team home. The Hyderabad-based franchise were off to a disastrous start as their talismanic skipper David Warner was sent back by Kagiso Rabada for just two. Priyam Garg showed some promise by hitting two quick sixes but didn’t last long either as he left his side reeling at 42 for 2.

Manish Pandey (21) and Jason Holder could not deliver with the bat too as SRH found themselves 4 down for 90 inside 12 overs. It brought Williamson and Abdul Samad in the middle and the duo revived their team’s hopes by adding 57 runs for the fifth wicket. However, neither of the two could stay till the end and SRH eventually ended up 17 runs short.

Earlier in the game, Delhi Capitals posted a big score of 189 for 3 in the allotted 20 overs after deciding to bat first. Marcus Stoinis, opening the innings for the first time in IPL 2020, and Shikhar Dhawan gave Delhi a solid start by adding 86 runs off 49 balls for the first wicket.

Rashid Khan broke the stand by dismissing Stoinis for 38. Dhawan, on the other hand, went on to score a fifty and returned to the pavilion after scoring 78 off 50 balls. Shimron Hetmyer then provided the finishing touch to the innings by slamming an unbeaten 42 from just 22 balls.

Here’s what David Warner said after the game:

Speaking at the end of the game, David Warner started by saying that not many had backed SRH to go a long way in the competition at the start. He further wished luck to Delhi and Mumbai for the final before praising some of his teammates.

“First and foremost, no one gave us a chance at the start. Mumbai has a great team, Delhi as well, and RCB, but I’m proud to be where we are today. Natarajan is a find of this IPL, and he’s been outstanding. Rashid has been amazing, and so has Manish Pandey at No. 3,” said David Warner.

The SRH skipper then slammed his teammates’ poor fielding and pointed out that the fielding was below par throughout the competition as he questioned his teammates’ attitude on the field. SRH players dropped as many as four catches against Delhi and eventually paid the price.

“The main thing is attitude in the field. You can’t win if you don’t take catches, so that, we’ll have to do much better next time – that’s what’s let us down in this tournament – the attitude on the field. Key players like Saha and Bhuvi has been difficult, but the rest of them have been excellent in their roles to get us where we have gotten today,” said the Australian.
