Fans have come down hard on former India opener Virender Sehwag after Sunrisers Hyderabad’s solid batting display against Kings XI Punjab on Thursday. The David Warner-led side thrashed KXIP by 69 runs to return to winning ways. The win was SRH’s third in six games and saw them move to the upper half of the points table.

Batting first, the Hyderabad-based franchise put up a huge total of 201 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs. Jonny Bairstow starred with the bat, scoring 97 while Warner scored 52. At one stage, it looked like SRH would score well above 200 when Warner and Bairstow were batting.

At 160 for no loss after 15 overs, SRH did have the opportunity to score well above 200 before Ravi Bishnoi dismissed both the set batsmen in the 16th over. SRH only managed 41 runs in the final five overs. But the score turned out to be more than enough in the end as KXIP were all out for just 132.

Virender Sehwag faces the heat:

Virender Sehwag faced criticism from the fans for the comments he had made about SRH before their game against Mumbai Indians. Before the game, Virender Sehwag has raised a number of eyebrows with his comments for the team.

Taking a dig at SRH’s batting, the batting legend said that the David Warner-led side should forfeit the game against the defending champions. With the game taking place in Sharjah where all the teams have scored 200 or more so far, the former cricketer said that SRH should not bother about competing and just give Mumbai a walkover.

“Mujhe lagta hain ki Hyderabad ko walkover dena chahiye, kyuni ki humare (SRH) batting mein dum nahi hain ki hum 200-250 run banaye. Hum toh 150 wale khilari hain, aur Mumbai ne agar peheli batting karli toh Mumbai banane wale hain 200 plus,” Virender Sehwag had said while speaking on Cricbuzz.

(His comment roughly translates to: Hyderabad should give a walkover. They don’t have the firepower in their batting to score 200-250. SRH are capable of a 150 runs and if Mumbai bat first they will put up a 200-plus total).”

And as soon as SRH put up the solid display against KXIP, the fans came out in numbers to slam the former India cricketer.
