The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been the birthplace of a plethora of cricketers in the international cricketing spectrum. The tournament, in its true sense, has acted as a catalyst to promote and grow cricket globally and has helped in the sport reaching an even wider fanbase.

From a player’s perspective, the Indian Premier League has given to world cricket, a host of talented superstars, who have gone on to conquer the biggest of competitions that exist in the sport. However, for a number of cricketers, the tournament has served as their final breeding ground in world cricket. This year too, the story has been the same for a lot of players, and today, we bring forward 5 players who might announce their retirement from T20 cricket after IPL 2020.

Harbhajan Singh represents the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise in the Indian Premier League. This year, the veteran decided not to be a part of the tournament owing to his mother’s illness and did not travel with the team to UAE. Bhajji last played a game for team India back in the year 2016. Since then, he has been away from the Men in Blue and the absence in this year’s tournament might prove to be his last.

4. Kedar Jadhav

Kedar Jadhav has been representing the Chennai Super Kings for in this year IPL. However, his poor performances have led to strong criticism from fans and experts alike and as a result of which, the team management had to drop him from the first eleven. Jadhav was last seen in the Indian colors when the national side toured Australia in 2017 and with his poor show in the IPL 2020, it seems an unlikely situation that he will get to play T20 cricket further.

3. Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane, the Indian Test vice-captain, was bought by the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise ahead of IPL 2020. However, he was made to warm the bench in the first 6 games. He made his first appearance in IPL 2020 against Mumbai Indians but failed to make an impact with the bat in the game. His last T20I for the India National Cricket Team came in 2016 against West Indies. Hence, it looks meager that Ajinkya Rahane will play T20 cricket from hereon.

2.  Ishant Sharma

Ishant Sharma last played a T20I for team India in the year 2013. This year, he was set to represent Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. However, an unfortunate injury ahead of the season kept him away from the first eleven. He finally made his IPL 2020 debut against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the bowler is now ruled out of the entire tournament due to a rib injury. Thus, eyeing a T20 return would be a not-so-smart choice from the veteran Indian fast bowler.

1. Piyush Chawla

Piyush Chawla was one of India’s prominent young bowlers when he broke into the scene. However, inconsistency in the international circuit has kept him away from the national side for the majority of his career. He has been regular in the domestic circuit and has performed decently in the IPL. This year, he was traded to the Chennai Super Kings and the bowler has failed miserably. The leggie hasn’t made his T20I debut for team India and it seems he won’t be able to make it in the coming years.
