Rajasthan Royals, on Tuesday, suffered their third defeat in a row in IPL 2020 as Mumbai Indians crushed them by 57 runs. And following the defeat, their skipper Steve Smith was slapped with a heavy fine for maintaining a slow-over rate during Mumbai Indians’ inning.

The Rajasthan-based franchise could not complete their quota of 20 overs in time. This was Rajasthan Royals’ first over-rate offence in the ongoing IPL 2020. Consequently, Steve Smith was fined INR 12 lakh.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Smith was fined Rs 12 lakh,” stated an IPL media release.

Mumbai Indians thrash Rajasthan Royals:

It was yet another forgettable outing for Rajasthan Royals as they lost their third consecutive game in IPL 2020. After starting the campaign with two back-to-back wins, the Steve Smith-led side has struggled on the field with both bat and ball. Against the defending champions, they rarely looked in contention to win the game.

Batting first, Mumbai Indians piled up 193 for 4 in the allotted 20 overs. Openers Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock gave Mumbai a flying start by adding 49 runs in less than five overs before the latter was sent back by debutant Kartik Tyagi. Mumbai Indians soon lost Rohit and Ishan Kishan on consecutive deliveries and Krunal Pandya got out cheaply too before Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya took charge.

The duo shared an unbeaten stand of 76 runs in just 36 balls to guide their team to the huge total. Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten on 79 while Hardik was unbeaten on 30.

The score turned out to be more than enough for Royals who were all out for just 136. Barring Jos Buttler, who scored a fighting fifty, none of the other batsmen made any notable contribution. With four points from five matches, the Royals are placed seventh on the points table.
