The 12th edition of the grandest T20 league in the world, the Indian Premier League is about to begin. IPL has been celebrated as a festival in India since its inception in 2008 and every season has proved to be more promising than its predecessor. With almost a month left for the IPL 2020 to begin, every franchise is looking to build a great squad to win the competition.

The auction held in December 2019 saw hundreds of player transfers and retention. Every team had a specific sum of money to spend in the auction. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) entered the IPL auctions 2020 with the second-highest purse of Rs. 35.65 crore. This enabled them to go bonkers in the auction. They spent more than a third of their available sum on Australia’s pace spearhead Pat Cummins. Cummins became the highest-ever paid overseas player in the history of the Indian Premier League bagging a whopping Rs. 15.5 Crore auction price.

Although Dinesh Karthik has failed to secure his spot in the Indian team, the Kolkata Knight Riders management has reposed faith on him. This is the main reason why the Knight Riders retained him for Rs. 7.40 crore.

Eoin Morgan:

Having the credit of being the oldest player of the competition, Tambe has been a star in the Indian Premier League. Given his age of 48 years, it is an achievement for him to have been picked by one of the most successful franchises of the tournament for his base price at 20 Lakhs. However, it is very sad that Tambe has been banned by the BCCI and will not participate in this year’s IPL. He failed to meet the criteria set by the BCCI and thus, the national governing body of cricket has banned him for this year’s IPL.

Kolkata Knight Riders have a serious squad depth this season. They have one of the most balanced squad and can be possible title challengers. The team is a combination of experienced legends of the game and young shining prospects. It will be interesting to see if KKR emerge victorious with this squad in the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League.
