It’s not only Yashasvi Jaiswal but the current Indian U19 team have got quite a few players who got bitter past. One of them is Atharva Ankolekar, who lost his father at the age of nine. However, his mother Vaidehi worked hard as a bus conductor to achieve her child’s dreams.

The youngster always wanted his mother to quit the job, as it is a pretty tough job to handle for a woman. He expected an IPL contract when he was named in the 971 players, who got registered for IPL 2020 Auction. Unfortunately, he failed to attract the bidder, which did not go well with the youngster.

However, Atharva’s mother believes his son got a great future ahead and winning the World Cup will further help him to make things fall in place. She also highlighted the point that U19 World Cup is a once in a lifetime moment while Indian Premier League comes every year.

IPL did not happen this year – Atharva’s mother Vaidehi

Talking to Hindustan Times, Atharva’s mother Vaidehi, who serves as a bus conductor with Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST), sounded hopeful of her son’s performance in the upcoming final against Bangladesh, a match which could well stand-out as the turning point of his career.

“It can be a turning point in his life. If India wins this match, he will get a lot of future-scope, and confidence from winning a big final. He was a little sad that IPL did not happen this year. But IPL comes every year. A U19 World Cup, he will get only once in a lifetime,” she said.

“He wants me to quit working because my job is strenuous,” she says. But I can’t take a hasty step. His income is based on tournaments he plays, it’s not fixed. Besides, I don’t want to depend completely on him. I also have a 14-year-old, who also plays cricket. I will continue with my job, at least till he becomes a stable cricketer.”

Atharva Ankolekar will be in the action when India takes on Bangladesh in the final of the tournament. So far, Atharva did well by picking 4 wickets to his name in 3 matches. His pressure from one end helped Ravi Bishnoi pick wickets at other ends.
