MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings bowed out of IPL 2020 with a thumping nine-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab on Sunday. CSK finished the competition with six wins from fourteen games.
What promised to be an exciting contest turned out to be a one-sided affair in the end as Chennai Super Kings made light work of KXIP. Right from the toss till the winning runs, almost everything fell in place for the MS Dhoni-led side.
The Punjab-based outfit lost Nicholas Pooran and Chris Gayle cheaply too and found themselves four down for 72 in the 12th over. Runs were hard to come by and it looked like they might finish well below 150. However, Deepak Hooda’s unbeaten knock of 62 from just 30 balls helped Punjab put up a challenging total.
Reason behind giving out jerseys:
Speaking at the end of the game, MS Dhoni revealed the reason behind handing out jerseys to the players after almost every game in the ongoing season. MS Dhoni was seen signing on the players’ jerseys as well as handing out his own jerseys to them, making many believe that he was considering retirement.
But before the start of the game, MS Dhoni ruled out retiring from IPL and after the end of the game, he revealed that the players asked for his jerseys because they were also thinking that the former India skipper would retire after the ongoing season.

“Maybe they [players] thought I’m retiring. I am retired from international cricket, [they thought] may be I’ll retire from shortest format also,” said MS Dhoni after the commentator asked him about giving jerseys to the players.
