Replacing MS Dhoni as captain will be a herculean task for Chennai Super Kings. The veteran has been with the franchise since the inaugural season and has led them in all the seasons so far. At present, he is gearing up to lead CSK in the thirteenth edition of the IPL.
In ten seasons that CSK have played so far (missing two seasons due to suspension), they have made it to the playoffs in all the seasons, made it to the final a record eight times and have won the league thrice. They are one of the only two teams who have won the league thrice or more.
Unsurprisingly, replacing MS Dhoni will be a big task for the CSK camp. Well, the wicketkeeper-batsman might make things easier for the franchise as he wants to prepare his successor. West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who has been a part of the CSK set-up since 2011, said grooming the next captain is already at the back of MS Dhoni’s mind.
“I know it’s been in the back of his mind for some time, I mean all of us have to step aside at some point of time. It’s just the matter of when… when to step aside and hand it over to whether it’s a Raina or someone younger,” Bravo told ABP News when asked about the captain’s plans for his successor in CSK.
Notably, Suresh Raina, who has pulled out of this year’s IPL due to personal reasons has been the official vice-captain for the last few years. CSK, however are yet to name a new vice-captain for this season or a replacement for Raina in the squad.
Bravo further said that MS Dhoni won’t have to worry about billions of Indian fans now after retiring from international cricket. At the same time, the CSK star said that retiring from international cricket won’t change how he leads CSK in the IPL.
“He doesn’t have to worry about a billion people now, it’s just CSK the franchise but I don’t think that’ll change the person he is, won’t he change how leads the team, definitely he’ll be the same person,” Bravo said.
Bravo is currently playing the ongoing Caribbean Premier League which will end on Thursday (August 10). Following that, he will travel to UAE for the IPL which starts from September 20.
