Kolkata Knight Riders [KKR] have brought an end to Rajasthan Royals [RR] unbeaten run in the Dream11 IPL 2020 courtesy a dominant bowling display-led by the Indian young duo of Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti.

It was a day where KKR’s fast-bowling strength and RR’s overdependence on their top-3 in Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, and Steve Smith were exposed to the hilt.

Chasing 176 to win, RR needed their top-order to once again do the heavy scoring but that wasn’t the case as the trio of Pat Cummins, Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti ran riot.

It all started in the 2nd over when Pat Cummins, after having troubled Steve Smith finally dismissed his Australian teammate (3 off 7 balls). Shivam Mavi then proceeded to claim the prized scalps of both Sanju Samson (8 off 9 balls) and a dangerous-looking Jos Buttler for a 16-ball 21.

Robin Uthappa’s struggle with the bat continued and Kamlesh Nagarkoti ensured that the right-hander did not stick around for long as he claimed both Uthappa and Riyan Parag in the same over to leave the Royals reeling at 5-48.

Rahul Tewatia wasn’t able to emulate his last game heroics and was dismissed by Varun Chakravarthy for a 10-ball 14 while Kamlesh Nagarkoti claimed a stunning catch to saw the back of Jofra Archer. Tom Curran scored his maiden half-century to help Rajasthan Royals narrow down the margin of defeat before they eventually went down by 37 runs.

Shubman Gill and Eoin Morgan were the cornerstones in KKR posting 6-174

Earlier, Shubman Gill once again displayed his class as he stroked some brilliant strokes that would whet the appetite of the purists.

Gill stroked a sumptuous 34-ball 47 and along with Nitish Rana gave KKR an ideal platform to launch from. Sunil Narine once again failed to deliver as an opener while Dinesh Karthik’s poor form continued as KKR suffered a middle-order meltdown thanks to brilliant bowling by both Jofra Archer (2-18) and Ankit Rajpoot, who got the prized scalp of Andre Russell.

Eoin Morgan’s calm-and collected knock, aided by brisk cameos from Pat Cummins and Kamlesh Nagarkoti, ensured that the Knights eventually posted a match-winning total of 6-174.

Thanks to today’s win, KKR has zoomed to the second spot in the points table besides also bettering the run-rate to +0.117 while Rajasthan Royals have slipped to the third position following their maiden defeat in the tournament.
