Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bowl first, fielding an unchanged side. However, Josh Philippe and Devdutt Padikkal began stamping their authority, putting on a whirlwind 71 for the opening wicket. Despite Padikkal’s 44-ball 74, Mumbai Indians kept the Royal Challengers to 164 as the likes of Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers could not fire. Jasprit Bumrah claimed three wickets for 14 runs while giving a maiden.

Mumbai Indians rode on Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten 79 off 43 balls, laced with ten fours and three sixes. Virat Kohli threw everything at Suryakumar Yadav, including sledging the right-handed batsman; however, he could not unsettle him. The likes of Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, and Ishan Kishan chipped in with vital contributions; however, Yadav’s half-century was the highlight of the night.
