A batting masterclass by Virat Kohli, an all-round bowling performance, and yet another botched run-chase by Chennai Super Kings [CSK], has helped the Royal Challengers Bangalore [RCB] to notch up a 37-run win over the three-time champions in Dubai.

Chasing 169, CSK once again baffled with their tactics (or the lack of it). Shane Watson (14 off 18 balls) and Faf du Plessis (8 off 10 balls) chewed up balls in the powerplay before eventually succumbing to force the issue against Washington Sundar.

There was no intent from Ambati Rayudu and N Jagadeeshan in the first 20 balls of their innings as the Super Kings huffed and puffed their way to 2-47 in 10 overs.

Ultimately, Jagadeeshan (33 off 28 balls) played a few strokes before he got himself run-out courtesy a horrible mix-up with Ambati Rayudu. Jagadeeshan’s dismissal brought MS Dhoni to the crease.

Dhoni made his intentions pretty clear when he smashed Yuzvendra Chahal for his 300th six in T20 cricket off his 3rd delivery. But Chahal ultimately had the last laugh as he tossed it up wide on the off-stump, only for MSD to mistime it to long-off.

The pressure of the mounting run-rate clearly showed post-MSD’s dismissal as the likes of Sam Curran, Ambati Rayudu and Dwayne Bravo fell in quick succession.

Chris Morris proved to be a valuable addition to RCB’s bowling. The lanky fast bowler bowled brilliantly at the backend to put the final nail in CSK’s coffin with the dismissal of Ravindra Jadeja.

Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 90 laid the cornerstone for RCB’s win over CSK

Earlier in the day, a Virat Kohli masterclass helped Royal Challengers Bangalore post a respectable 4-169 in 20 overs Kohli came in to bat after Aaron Finch was once again undone by an incoming delivery courtesy Deepak Chahar. Devdutt Padikkal didn’t look in his elements today as he struggled on what was a slow and sluggish track in Dubai.

And, when Padikkal and AB De Villiers were dismissed in the same over by Shardul Thakur, RCB suddenly found themselves in a lot of trouble- 3-67 in 10.5 overs.

Kohli, who had scored 44 runs in his first 35 balls, accelerated beautifully in the end, taking 17 deliveries for his next 46. The Indian captain showed shades of ABD when he scooper Dwayne Bravo towards fine-leg but it was his running between the wickets that was once again the hallmark of his knock.

Thanks to a 37-run-win, Virat Kohli’s RCB has leapfrogged SRH to claim the 4th spot in the table while CSK are at the 6th spot with 5 defeats in 7 games.
