Oh Virat! Is there anything that you can’t do with that sledgehammer masquerading as a cricket bat in your hand?
You can weather the storm when you fellow batsmen are following a procession at the other end; you can obviously cream some of the sumptuous shots- especially that (THAT) cover-drove and on-drive; You can run like a maniac as if you life depends on it (when it really doesn’t); Hell! You can also play those ABD-esque shots if you want to!
And, you once again testified each of those aspects during your unbeaten 90* (52 balls) against the Chennai Super Kings in Dubai on Sunday night.
The ABD-esque aspect of Virat Kohli’s play came in the last over of RCB’s innings when the charismatic batsman outsmarted both Dhoni and Bravo- who thought that there was no point putting a fine-leg as he doesn’t scoop. And, Virat did just that!
He came a long way across and lapped it brilliantly over the vacant short fine-leg region. And, you could make out from his face how happy he was while pointing it out towards his mate AB de Villiers in the dressing room.
The rest of his innings of a typical Virat Kohli masterclass in how to shift gears in a T20 game. With wickets falling around him, Kohli was circumspect in the initial half, scoring 44 of his first 35 balls before he pressed on the accelerator to rack up the next 46 runs in just 17 balls.
The most striking aspect of Virat Kohli’s knock was that he scored 50 of his 90 runs in 1s and 2s. He ran a total of 11 doubles, four of which came in the last over, once again testifying his ridiculous fitness.
