Rajasthan Royals [RR] and their fans would have thought that a comeback to Sharjah would bring a change in their fortunes- and for a while when they were bowling it looked that way- but eventually, it was the same old script that has plagued their campaign thus far as a ruthless Delhi Capitals [DC] unit consigned them to their 4th consecutive defeat in IPL 2020.

In the process, the Delhi Capitals became the second team after Mumbai Indians (MI) to notch up three back-to-back victories.

This was Delhi Capitals fifth win of the tournament and it would possibly the most satisfying win for them so far, given the fact that they, first of all, managed to reach 181 from a precarious position of 5-122 in 15 overs and secondly the ruthless manner in which they defended a sub-200 total on a ground like Sharjah.

The Capitals staged their comeback on the back of valuable contributions from Marcus Stoinis (39 off 30 balls) and Axar Patel (17 off 8 balls) and a whirlwind assault by Shimron Hetmyer- 45 off 24 balls.

Rajasthan Royals were never really in the run-chase as Delhi Capitals- be it their fast bowlers or spinners- continued to chip away at the wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin silenced his detractors, who thought the off-spinner can only dismiss Buttler through ‘Mankad’, thanks to some brilliant bit of fielding by Shikar Dhawan as he took a stunning catch at deep square-leg.

Marcus Stoinis and Shimron Hetmyer backed up their contribution with the bat with a brilliant display of bowling and fielding.

Hetmyer took a stunning catch to help DC remove Steve Smith, following which Marcus Stoinis effectively killed the contest by dismissing both Samson (5 off 9 balls)- also caught by Hetmyer- and Yashasvi Jaiswal (34 off 36 balls).

Ashwin (2-22) came back to dismiss Lomror to reduce RR to 6-82. Axar Patel chipped in with the wicket of Andrew Tye thanks to another stunning catch, this time by Kagiso Rabada- while Archer and Gopal fell to Rabada and Harshal Patel as Hetmyer completed a hat-trick of catches.

Rahul Tewatia stroked some lusty blows in the end before Kagiso Rabada brought an end to the proceedings by going bang bang in the final over.

Here’s how IPL 2020 Points Table is looking after DC’s 46-run hammering of RR

Following a commanding win over the Royals, Delhi Capitals have once again claimed a significant lead in the points table. They are at the numero-uno spot in the points table after having claimed 10 points in six games. RR remains at the 7th spot after their fourth consecutive defeat of the tournament.
