The 13th season of the Indian Premier League [IPL] completed on a disappointing note for the Rajasthan Royals as they went down to Kolkata Knight Riders [KKR] by 60 runs in what was a must-win encounter.
As has been the case with the Rajasthan Royals over the years, the inaugural champions once again flattered to deceive as some outstanding performances were followed by an extended lean patch. The hallmark of RR’s campaign was that they never really performed as a cohesive unit and the matches that they won were largely because of great individual performances.
On that note, here’s a look at Rajasthan Royals players performance ratings:

Yashasvi Jaiswal- 2/10

M- 3| R- 40|Avg- 13.33|SR- 90.90|HS- 34
Yashasvi Jaiswal came into IPL 2020 riding on raging expectations following his exploits in the 2019 domestic season and the 2020 U-19 World Cup.
But unfortunately, the constant chop and change at the top of the order by the Rajasthan Royals management meant that the young southpaw did not get enough opportunity to showcase his potential. Jaiswal featured in just 3 games, managing 40 runs at an average of 13.33.
Robin Uthappa- 2/10

M- 12| R- 196|Avg- 16.33|SR- 119.51|50s- 0 | HS- 44
It was yet another disappointing season for former IPL winner, Robin Uthappa.
Uthappa was tried at various positions in the batting-unit but barring the 44 he scored against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the stylish right-hander had a poor outing in most of the innings he played.
Overall, Robin Uthappa managed just 196 runs in 12 innings at an average of 16.33 and a strike-rate of 119.51.
Ben Stokes- 7/10
After having a string of poor outings for the major part of the games he played, Ben Stokes finally turned it on at the business end of the IPL for his franchise, Rajasthan Royals.
Stokes, who opened the innings alongside Uthappa, scorer a brutal match-winning hundred (60-ball 107) against Mumbai Indians to help his team chase down 195. He then followed it up with another whirlwind half-century in the next match to set-up an eventual win for the Royals.
Overall, Ben Stokes scored 285 runs in 8 matches at an average of 40.71 and a strike-rate of 142.50. With the ball, he managed just 2 wickets in 15 overs at an average of 77 and an economy rate of 10.26.
Steve Smith- 4/10
Whether it was his batting performances or his on-field tactics or his team selections, it is fair to say that Steve Smith had a pretty ordinary IPL 2020.
As far as his batting is concerned, Smith started off brilliantly by scoring consecutive half-centuries in the 1st two matches, but post that, it was largely a disappointing show by the Royals skipper as he constantly fidgeted with his batting position and his batting style. In 14 innings, Steve Smith managed 311 runs in 14 innings at an average of 25.91 and a strike-rate of 131.22 with three 50+ scores.
With regards to his captaincy, Smith largely appeared clueless. He constantly changed around his batting-order, thus causing instability in the ranks, and did not show any confidence in youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Akash Singh and kept going with non-performers like Robin Uthappa, Jaydev Unadkat, Ankit Rajpoot, and Varun Aaron.
Sanju Samson- 6/10
It was yet another season of boom and bust for the prodigiously talented Sanju Samson.
After having lightened up the IPL with consecutive 50+ scores in the first two matches, Samson underwent an extended period of decline in the form before eventually regaining it at the fag end of the tournament.
Samson still finished as Rajasthan Royals leading run-getter- 375 runs in 14 games at 28.84- but even he would admit that he could have been a bit more consistent.
Jos Buttler- 6/10
Just like the other Rajasthan Royals batsman, Jos Buttler batted at several positions in IPL 2020.
The English swashbuckler started off as an opener before shifting down the order to assume the role of a finisher. His 48-ball 70 against CSK was the highlight of his campaign, which turned out to be largely inconsistent according to his standards.
Overall, Buttler scored 328 runs in 12 innings at an average of 32.80 and a strike-rate of 144.49 with two 50+ scores.
Rahul Tewatia- 10/10
Whenever the history of IPL 2020 will be written, it will surely not be completed without the mention of Rahul Tewatia.
The spin-bowling all-rounder lit up the IPL with his situations defying and character-defining performances. His 53 against Kings XI Punjab, where he stroked 6 sixes in the last 8 deliveries he faced, after having managed 8 off his first 19, helped RR pull-off the highest run-chase in the history of the IPL.
Tewatia followed it up with yet another match-winning knock against SunRisers Hyderabad later in the tournament, proving that his heist against KXIP was not just a flash in the pan. The all-rounder was equally brilliant with the ball as he offered brilliant control during the middle-overs.
And, by the end of it all, Tewatia became the 2nd Indian cricketer after Rohit Sharma (in 2009) to score 200+ runs and take 10 wickets in a single season.
Mahipal Lomror- 4/10
Mahipal Lomror got just three opportunities in the Dream IPL 2020 and the batsman made his presence felt in his very first outing against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, where he scored a crucial 47 in an eventual match-losing cause.
Lomror played two more games in which he managed a mere 12 runs, post which he was benched for the rest of the season.
Tom Curran- 4/10

M- 5 |I-4 |R- 83 |Avg- 83.00 |SR- 133.87 |50-1 | HS- 54| Wkts- 3|Avg- 69.33 | Eco- 11.44
Tom Curran chipped in with some crucial cameos for the Rajasthan Royals while batting down the order. In 4 innings, Curran scored 83 runs at an average of 83.00 and a strike-rate of 133.87 with his highest score being 54 not-out.
But it was his bowling- especially at the death- that left a lot to be desired. Curran proved to be very expensive in almost every game he bowled. In the 18.1 overs that the English all-rounder bowled, he gave away 208 runs at an average of 69.33 and a strike-rate of 11.44 for just three wickets.
Riyan Parag- 4/10

M- 3|I- 3| R- 59|Avg- 19.60|SR- 109.25|50-0| HS- 47
Apart from his match-winning knock against SunRisers Hyderabad, where he along with Rahul Tewatia steered Rajasthan Royals to an unlikely victory, Riyan Parag had a pretty poor outing in IPL 2020.
In the eight innings that he batted, Parag managed just 86 runs- 42 of which came in a single innings against SRH- at an average of 12.28 and a strike-rate of 111.68.
Shreyas Gopal- 2/10

M- 14|I-5|R- 37|Avg- 9.25|SR- 94.87|50-0| HS- 23| Wkts- 10|Avg- 42.70 | Eco- 8.54 | BBI- 2-28
Shreyas Gopal did not the number of wickets that he would have liked this season. The talented Karnataka leg-spinner bowled a total of 50 overs this season, in which he gave away 427 runs at an average of 42.70 and an economy rate of 8.54 for his 10 wickets.
As far as his batting is concerned, he strolled out in the middle on five occasions and scored a total of 37 runs at an average of 9.25 and a strike-rate of 94.87, the majority [23] of which were scored in the last game against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Ankit Rajpoot- 1/10
Ankit Rajpoot was one of the many fast bowlers that Rajasthan Royals tried to partner with the irresistible Jofra Archer but the right-arm bowler failed to live up to the expectations.
Rajpoot featured in 6 games in which he gave away 199 runs in a mere 17 overs at an average of 99.50 and at an economy rate of 11.70, claiming just two wickets in return.
Andrew Tye- 1/10
With the overseas slots choke-a-block in the Royals set-up, Andrew Tye got just one opportunity- against Delhi Capitals- to play in the Dream11 IPL 2020. And, it proved to be a nightmarish one for the Australian as he was carted around the park for 50 runs in his quota of four overs for a solitary scalp. Tye did not get another opportunity to feature in the playing 11.
Jaydev Unadkat- 1/10

M- 7| 0vers- 23| R- 228| Avg- 57|Wkts- 4|Eco- 9.91| BBI- 2/32
It was yet another disappointing season for domestic stalwart Jaydev Unadkat. The left-arm medium-pacer played in seven games in which he gave away 228 runs at an average of 57.00 and an economy rate of 9.91 for four wickets.
The death knell to his campaign came against the Royal Challengers Bangalore where AB de Villiers laid into him, smoking him for three consecutive sixes in the penultimate over to pave way for an unlikely victory for his team.
Varun Aaron- 0.5/10

M- 3| 0vers- 8| R- 94| Avg- NA|Wkts- 0|Eco- 11.75| BBI- NA
Varun Aaron bowled with pace and hostility but as has been the case with his bowling throughout his career, the Jharkhand fast bowler was hugely inconsistent in his line and length, and hence proved to be pretty expensive.
That said, Aaron could have got an elusive scalp of Chris Gayle had Riyan Parag not dropped the skier. That dropped catch meant that the fast bowler finished with 0 wickets in his three outings.
Kartik Tyagi- 5/10

M- 10| 0vers- 38.1| R- 367| Avg- 42.70|Wkts- 10|Eco- 8.54| BBI- 2/28
Kartik Tyagi claimed 9 wickets in 10 outings at an average of 42.70 and an economy rate of 8.54. Yes, his average might suggest that he had a poor campaign but in reality, the rookie fast bowler hugely impressed with his ability to nail consistent yorkers and his temperament while bowling at the death.
Tyagi will only get better from the experience of bowling against the best in the business and he is one of the few positives for the Rajasthan Royals in an otherwise disappointing campaign.
Jofra Archer- 10/10
Even 10/10 isn’t enough for what Jofra Archer managed to do this IPL. Archer proved to be the ‘Most Valuable Player’ for the Rajasthan Royals this season.
Apart from cranking up the pace, Archer claimed consistent wickets and in return gave literally nothing throughout the season. In 14 games, Archer bowled a total of 55.4 overs in which he claimed 20 wickets at an average of 18.25 and an economy rate of 6.55. Besides all these wickets, Archer also chipped-in with the bat, smashing 113 runs in 10 innings at a strike-rate of 179.36
Disclaimer- David Miller hasn’t been rated since he got a diamond duck in the only game that he played in IPL 2020.
