Former Sunrisers Hyderabad coach, Tom Moody has revealed that the Mumbai Indians asked for a trade of Rashid Khan a couple of years ago. Rashid came into the SRH team in 2017.
In four seasons, Rashid has been phenomenal for the 2016 champions. The leggie has picked 75 wickets at an average of 20.49 and an economy of 6.25. In IPL 2020, the Afghan spinner picked 20 wickets at an economy of 5.37 and registered his best IPL figures of 3/7.
MI traded in Quinton de Kock from RCB, and he has been a vital part of the last two title-winning seasons. Trent Boult was traded into Mumbai from Delhi, and he picked 25 wickets in IPL 2020 and was the man of the match in the final.

The support staff at SRH is actually half of what MI’s is: Tom Moody
Tom Moody in a talk show with ESPNCricinfo revealed that a few years ago Mumbai Indians wanted to trade in Rashid Khan from SRH. Rashid wasn’t as a big a superstar back then as he is now. MI recognized the talent and potential of the Afghanistan spinner and asked for a trade.
The 55-year-old said that Mumbai was the only team that had the courage and bravado to aks for Rashid Khan, who was just finding his feet in T20 cricket.
Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Tom Moody said, “I remember an incident from maybe two years ago when they (Mumbai Indians) asked for a trade for Rashid Khan. They are the only franchise who have had the gumption or the bravado to knock on the door and ask for a trade for Rashid.”
“Other franchises don’t do it (trading) with the same confidence and perseverance or with the whole management structure behind their team philosophy. A lot of teams run a lot leaner that what Mumbai Indians so. The support staff at SRH is actually half of what MI’s is,” Tom Moody added.
