Kolkata Knight Riders, on Saturday, pulled off a heist against Kings XI Punjab and registered a stunning 2-run win to register their fourth win of the season. On the other hand, KXIP suffered their fifth loss on the trot as they remain rooted at the bottom of the points table.

Batting first, Kolkata Knight Riders finished their innings on 164 for 6 with Shubman Gill and skipper Dinesh Karthik scoring fifties. The two-time IPL champions were off to a disastrous start with in-form duo of Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana departing in quick succession.

Tripathi was first castled by Mohammed Shami for 4 before Rana was run-out for 2 as KKR found themselves two down for just 14. A 49-run stand between Gill and Eoin Morgan stopped the rot before the latter departed for 24 at a crucial juncture. With Gill not being able to score at a good-rate, problems were mounting for KKR.

Andre Russell’s poor form with the bat continued too as he was out for just 5. At one stage, it looked like KKR would not even touch the 150-run mark before Karthik came to the rescue. The KKR skipper slammed 58 off just 29 balls to help his side finish on a competitive total.

For KXIP, youngsters Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi impressed with the ball, conceding just 25 runs in their respective four overs while picking up one wicket each.

Chasing 165 , KXIP were off to a stunning start. Their in-form openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal scored fifties and added 115 runs for the first wicket in less than 15 overs. At that stage, it looked like a cakewalk for the KL Rahul-led side before they threw away another game.

In the last two overs, they needed to score 20 runs but managed just 17. Krishna bowled a stunning 19th over where he conceded just 6 while taking the crucial wicket of Rahul as well as Prabhsimran Singh. In the final over, Sunil Narine defended 14 runs to help his side register a stunning victory.
