Things have not really unfolded in a manner Chennai Super Kings would have wanted ever since they landed in UAE for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. Within a week of their arrival in UAE, they were rocked by the COVID-19 cases as 13 of their members including two players tested positive for the dreaded virus.

Consequently, their mandatory 6-day quarantine period had to be extended. Soon, they suffered another blow when their star man Suresh Raina pulled out of IPL 2020 citing personal reasons. The southpaw has decided to skip the entire tournament this year.

And as if those blows were not enough, reports emerged that veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh could also decide against playing in IPL 2020 due to concerns over the recent positive cases in the team. The off-spinner is yet to join the team in UAE and had also missed the pre-season camp last month.

Surprising update from CSK camp:

At the moment, nothing is clear about Harbhajan Singh’s participation in the upcoming tournament. And if reports are to be believed then even the CSK camp is not aware of his situation either. A top franchise official has stated that Harbhajan Singh is yet to update the team about his situation.

“He was to join the team on 1st September but he has again deferred his arrival. We don’t know when he’s coming or whether he’s coming at all as he has not updated us (management) on his decision.

“Him pulling out of IPL is all speculation at the moment,” the official told Times Now.

Meanwhile, CSK have received some good news as all the players and staff members, except the 13 who were tested positive last week, have returned negative results. The test was carried out on Monday. They will now undergo another test before beginning training on Friday (September 4).

“All others, apart from the 13, have tested negative for Covid-19. They will have to undergo another test on Thursday, September 3. We are likely to start training on Friday, September 4,” CSK CEO KS Viswanathan said.

IPL 2020 is scheduled to start on September 19 and Chennai Super Kings are likely to take on Mumbai Indians in the tournament-opener.
