IPL 2021: Rassie Van Der Dussen To Miss Out On IPL 14: Reports

South Africa batsman Rassie van der Dussen is most likely to miss out on the opportunity to make his Indian Premier League (IPL) outing for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing IPL 2021 if the reports are to be believed. RR had contacted him to replace England Ben Stokes, who suffered an injury and was ruled out of the tournament.

Rajasthan Royals have a severe drought of overseas players as they have to make do with Mustafizur Rahman, David Miller, Jos Buttler, and Chris Morris, as they have lost Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer to injury and Liam Livingstone and Andrew Tye pulled out of the tournament owing to COVID-19 concerns in India.

Cricket South Africa Reportedly Denies Rassie Van Der Dussen NOC To Play In IPL 2021

Rassie van der Dussen had gone unsold during the IPL 2021 auction for his base price of INR 50 lakhs. The 32-year-old, who was named as a replacement for England all-rounder Ben Stokes after he was ruled out of the IPL due to a broken finger, but unfortunately, Cricket South Africa refused to issue him a No Objection Certificate to play in the IPL 2021.

As per ESPNCricinfo.com reports, Rassie Van Der Dussen had obtained a visa to travel to India but failed to obtain a No Objection Certificate from his country’s cricket board.

Interestingly, Rassie Van Der Dussen, who has scored 628 runs in 20 T20I matches, had regained his fitness after suffering a left quadriceps muscle strain ahead of the third ODI against Pakistan early last month.

RR Names South African Pacer Gerald Coetzee As A Replacement For England’s Liam Livingstone

However, another South African, 20-year-old Gerald Coetzee, a fast bowler, who has represented South Africa in U19 World Cups, was named the replacement for Liam Livingstone. He has picked nine wickets in eight T20s. Coetzee arrived in India and has completed his quarantine period, joining RR in training.

Rajasthan Royals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in their most recent match which was played in Delhi on May 2, 2021. After being put in to bat first, RR posted a humongous 220/3 on the back of Jos Buttler’s maiden IPL century. He made 124 in 64 balls with 11 fours and 8 sixes to his name. He also added 150 runs with Sanju Samson as SRH bowlers were hammered to all parts of Kotla.

SRH, in reply, could muster only 165/8 with Chris Morris and Mustafizur Rahman picking three wickets each.

With this win, RR moved to the 5th spot in the points table with 3 wins and 6 points from 7 matches.
