Rajasthan Royals (RR) spinner Ravichandran Ashwin called the entire last over of their IPL 2022 match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 22, 2022, a topsy turvy one after Rovman Powell of DC hit three sixes in three balls to send concern in RR dugout despite 36 runs needed in the 20th over.

Obed McCoy bowled the final over and with 36 runs needed, Delhi Capitals batter Rovman Powell smashed West Indies teammate Obed McCoy for three sixes to get the equation down to 18 runs off three deliveries.

But the waist-high full toss was not called a no-ball much to the dismay and anger of the on-fielder DC batters and the DC camp as Rishabh Pant animatedly gestured Powell and Kuldeep to come off the field, if the matter was not going to be referred to the TV umpire.

However calm prevailed as umpires stuck to their guns, however, Powell was not able to hit any more sixes and McCoy helped RR win the match by 15 runs and RR went to the top of the IPL 2022 points table.

I Was Having My Fingers Crossed: Ravichandran Ashwin On The Last Over

Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin on Friday said that the last over of the match against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai was nerve-wracking and a topsy-turvy one.

“The last over was topsy-turvy. I was having my fingers crossed. Devdutt Paddikal was standing at the Point and he kept asking me if it was really happening (Delhi winning in the last over) and I kept telling him that it is not happening,” said Ashwin in a post-match interview.

Praising pacer Obed Mccoy for his performance in the last over, Ashwin said, “It is never easy to bowl the last over. Obed did a fantastic job. He looks big but is really a young guy. I think he held his nerves well at the last three balls.”

On the par score at Wankhede‘s pitch, Ashwin pointed out that the pitch is good for batting, the ground is small and there were some heavy hitters in DC’s batting line-up, so no total is safe on such surfaces when all teams have powerful hitters.

The Royals are at the top of the points tally with 10 points and will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 26.
