Delhi Daredevils (DD) poor run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as they finished as they crashed out of this edition finishing last in the league of eight teams.
Meanwhile, Delhi is one of the few teams who are yet to put a hand on the coveted trophy. They roped in a strong team at the auctions hoping to change their fortunes.
However, they struggled to find the right combinations going right through the tournament. Moreover, the overseas failed to make a mark which sums up Delhi’s campaign this year.
Although the young cricketers made a long-lasting impression, many senior cricketers failed to live up to the expectations. As a result, Delhi managed to win only five games from 14 outings.
With this edition done and dusted, they will look forward to the next editions to build a strong team in pursuit of the trophy. Out of the current squad, it is likely that Delhi will leave many players and will go in search of emerging talents.
Here is the list of five cricketers Delhi might not retain in the next edition:
Glenn Maxwell:

Delhi Daredevils roped in the Australian T20 stalwart in order to change their fortunes in the league. However, his outing on the field for Delhi sums up their campaign in this edition.
With the bat, Maxwell managed to register only 169 runs from 12 games at an average of 14.08. He struggled to provide stability in the middle-order as Delhi failed to set the tone right.
Maxwell will certainly have to change his base as he failed to fulfill his franchise’s expectations.
Gautam Gambhir:

Prior to this edition, Gautam Gambhir announced that he had unfinished business with the Daredevils. However, it only remained a word as he is left his prime touch behind.
Moreover, he stepped down from the captaincy role and young Shreyas Iyer took the onus on himself.
With 85 runs behind his name from six games, it can be Gambhir’s last season with his home franchise.
Mohammed Shami:

It is likely that the personal problems prior to the start of IPL took a toll on Mohammed Shami’s performance. The premier pacer has struggled to get his line and length and was thoroughly expensive.
As a result, young seamer Avesh Khan replaced him in the first XI and made an early mark.
In the four matches, he has played, the seamer managed to pick only three wickets and bowled at an economy rate of 9.13. Disappointed with his performance, it is highly likely that Delhi will not retain for the next edition.
Shahbaz Nadeem:
Shahbaz Nadeem, a regular in the Daredevils squad, they roped the left-arm spinner at the auction with high hopes. However, he failed to live up to franchise’s expectations.
He returned with three wickets from six games at the start of the edition. Eventually, he lost his place in the playing XI and is unlikely that he will retain his place in the upcoming edition.
The swashbuckling New Zealand opener has struggled terribly to get going in this edition. Meanwhile, Colin Munro, known for his antics in the shortest format of the game didn’t find his timing right.
The southpaw managed to score only 63 runs from five games at an average of 11.62. As a result, Delhi failed to get good starts and was eventually left out of the team.
Failing to make a mark, it is likely that Delhi will retain the Kiwi international for the next edition.
