Mumbai Indians led by Rohit Sharma bowed out of Indian Premier League’s season 11 after losing their final group game against Delhi Daredevils (DD) by 11 runs. It was a pretty disappointing run chase by the three-time champions.

Chasing a target of 175 to win, Mumbai lost a cluster of wickets in the middle overs. The leg-spinning duo of Amit Mishra and Sandeep Lamichhane waved magic as Mumbai were left behind in the game in the middle overs.

They started off the chase quite well as Evin Lewis looked in complete control of proceedings. He smashed a six of Amit Mishra to reach 47 before being dismissed by the same bowler. Wickets kept tumbling as Mumbai were reduced to 78 for five.

However, there was a good partnership between Hardik Pandya and skipper Rohit Sharma which brought MI back into the game.

The wicket of Rohit Sharma proved to be quite decisive in the end. However, Hardik Pandya kept them in the game with some lusty blows. After his dismissal of Amit Mishra, Mumbai needed a miracle to chase the total down.

Ben Cutting made a valiant effort as he smashed quite a few lusty blows which keep them in the game.

With 18 required of the final over, Cutting smashed a six of the very first delivery.

However, he was dismissed in the very next delivery as Harshal Patel foxed him with a slow delivery. They eventually lost by 11 runs to make their way out of the championship. They need to win the match to join the likes of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the playoffs.

Mumbai’s loss proved to be a blessing in disguise for Rajasthan Royals (RR) as they qualified for the playoffs. Rohit expressed his disappointment following Mumbai’s defeat.

Taking to his twitter handle Rohit Sharma wrote:

“Disappointing to be out of the tournament, I guess that’s life and sport. We can’t always get what we want. We did fight hard but I guess the opposition was just a little better on the day. Will look to turn things around next year.”
