It was an emphatic performance by the Mumbai Indians (MI) as they annihilated the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) yet again by a huge margin of 102 runs. It meant Kolkata have lost all their last seven encounters against Indians.
The match turned out to be a totally one-sided affair. Mumbai went onto score a mammoth 210 in their allotted 20 overs. It was a sensational effort by Ishan Kishan, who scored 62 of just 21 deliveries and Ben Cutting provided the late impetus with nine-ball 24.
Kolkata was never in the chase as they kept losing wickets on a consistent basis. They were totally outplayed in all three departments.
Courtesy the victory, Mumbai goes to the fourth position in the points table and are well on track in the lucrative Twenty20 competition.
Indians began pretty well after being put in to bat. Suryakumar Yadav continued his rich vein of form in the tournament. However, he wasn’t able to find the gaps on a consistent basis. They lost Evin Lewis and Yadav in quick succession.
Captain Rohit Sharma was at the crease when young 19-year-old Ishan Kishan was sent up the order.

Kishan started off with some brilliant shots. Kuldeep Yadav was at the receiving end of his lusty blows. The southpaw smashed four consecutive sixes of Kuldeep and in the process reached to the second joint fastest fifty of the season. It came in a mere 17 deliveries.
Interestingly, Kishan smashed a helicopter shot of the final delivery of Kuldeep. He went on to smash a huge six in the next over of Sunil Narine.
However, in attempting to continue the onslaught he was caught in the deep. He eventually made 62 of 21 deliveries which were studded with four fours and six sixes.
Hardik Pandya struck a couple of sixes during his brief stay of 19 runs. On the other hand skipper, Rohit wasn’t at his fluent best but ended up scoring 36.
The late impetus in the innings was provided by Ben Cutting, who smashed 24 in quick time. It included a couple of sixes and a four of the final over of Piyush Chawla. Krunal Pandya struck the final delivery for a six to take Mumbai to a mammoth total of 210 for six in 20 overs.
Kolkata lost Sunil Narine pretty early. Chris Lynn struck some gorgeous shots, to begin with.
However, he was dismissed in an unfortunate way. He just kept running for a non-existent run which brought about his downfall on 23 of 15 deliveries. The home team was never in the chase as they kept losing wickets on a consistent basis.
Hardik was yet again among the wickets bagging a couple more. Wickets kept tumbling and Kolkata fell way short of the target in the end. It was just a culmination of their disastrous run against the Mumbai. No team has beaten any team than Mumbai has beaten Kolkata in IPL.
