BCCI have adopted the wait and watch policy for IPL 2020. The parent body has kept the July window open for a closed door tournament while there are also speculations that the lucrative tournament will take the October window and the 2020 T20 World Cup will be postponed to next year. However, there is no clarity, as the novel coronavirus pandemic continues the grip the world and effect lives.
The IPL 2020 was slated to get underway from March 29 initially but then deferred to April 15 due to the pandemic situation. The parent body has then postponed the tournament indefinitely with the extension of lockdown in the country.
No time will be left to hold IPL, T20 World Cup is also there: Mohammed Shami
Premier India fast bowler Mohammed Shami feels there will be no time left to host the IPL as the 2020 T20 World Cup is also scheduled to take place in October. He also asserted that the tournament can be re-scheduled but largely does not sees a chance of the IPL being held this year.
“I don’t think there will be time left to hold the IPL because the (T20) World Cup is also there and everything has stopped. IPL will have to be re-scheduled but looking at the current scenario, I don’t think the IPL will be possible,” Mohammed Shami told India Today’s Sports Editor Vikrant Gupta.
Shami has played 51 matches in the lucrative tournament. He has picked up 40 wickets with the best bowling figures of 3/21 at an average of 38.67. He continues to be an integral part of the Kings XI Punjab franchise who are still to get their hands on the IPL trophy.
