Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) continued their upward charge in the Dream11 IPL as Nicholas Pooran’s belligerence helped the KL Rahul-led team to a comfortable 5-wicket win- their third in a row- against table-toppers, Delhi Capitals [DC].

Chasing 165, KXIP got off to an interesting start. While they scored runs at a brisk pace- Chris Gayle hammered 26 of them in one Tushar Deshpande over- they lost the cream of their batting unit with the likes of KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, and Mayank Agarwal in the first powerplay.

Agarwal was dismissed thanks to a horrible miscommunication between him and Nicholas Pooran but the latter more than made up for it by taking the DC bowlers to the cleaners.

Pooran targeted the likes of Deshpande, Axar Patel, and Marcus Stoinis during his astounding 28-ball 53, and by the time he was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada, the game was as good as over.

Shikhar Dhawan’s record hundred helped DC post 164 vs KXIP

Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan’s second consecutive hundred paved way for DC to score 5-164 in 20 overs.

While Dhawan achieved many milestones during his 58-ball 100, he was not helped by his fellow batsmen, and one can safely gauge that from the fact that the southpaw scored nearly 65℅ of his teams’ runs, with the second-highest score being 14 by Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant respectively.

The lack of contribution by other batsmen meant DC fell at least 15-20 runs from what would have been a par score but given the way in which Pooran batted, don’t think it would have actually mattered.

Thanks to today’s win, KXIP has leapfrogged SRH and RR  to move to the 5th spot in the points table while DC remains at the numero-uno spot, followed by MI, who have the same points as Delhi but the Rohit Sharma-led side has played one game less.
