Irfan Pathan was a sight to relish when he was in his pomp. Having burst on the scene as a 19-year-old prodigy, Pathan enthralled the folklore with his pace, seam, swing, and hostility.

Pathan would go on to lead the Indian fast bowling unit for the next three to four years before injuries and lack of support by the team-management thwarted his progress.

But despite the blip, Pathan inspired a whole host of young cricketers to take up fast bowling. And, the left-handed fast bowler thinks that the current crop of the fast bowling group like Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav is doing the same.

Speaking on Salaam Cricket 2020, Irfan Pathan said the current Indian fast bowling group has made bowling ‘beautiful’ and with that, they are inspiring young kids to take up fast bowling.

Young kids want to become fast bowlers because of people like Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav. Credits goes to these players because they have made fast bowling beautiful to watch. Watching them bowl with swing and seam movement is wonderful. You need tremendous fitness and skills to do that,” Irfan Pathan said.

The quartet of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav have wreaked havoc on batsmen around the world and in varied conditions and have rightfully impinged themselves as one of the leading fast bowling attacks of the modern era.

Pathan has been involved in a lot of humanitarian work during the Covid-19 enforced lockdown. Speaking on the same, Pathan said that it is his responsibility to help people during these tough times.

“I know a lot of players who have helped people and stayed away from the limelight. It is also our responsibility to help our people. Our job is not limited to just play for the country and earn our livelihoods. We have to give back to the society as well. There is something called Zakaat in Islam, which the poor/needy people are entitled to. It is very satisfying to help the people in need and even if the blessing of one person works then I think our job would have been successful,” Irfan Pathan stated.
