Irfan Pathan Says Mahmudullah's Captaincy Is A Bit Similar To That Of MS Dhoni

Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah has maintained the art of staying calm in pressure situations. He is currently leading his side in the ongoing T20I series against India and the series is still alive at 1-1, with the final encounter to be played in Nagpur on November 10 (Sunday). Meanwhile, According to Irfan Pathan, Mahmudullah has perfected the art of captaincy, adding that his captaincy looks a bit similar to that of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

After a string of soul-crushing defeats at the hands of India over the years in T20Is, Bangladesh were able to come through with flying colours. The neighbours braved the conditions and registered their first-ever T20I win over India in the capital city last Sunday. Nonetheless, their tactics were to no avail in Rajkot as India made a stellar rebound to level the series with a dominant 8-wicket win on Thursday.

Irfan Pathan has showered praise on Mahmudullah’s captaincy, stressing on the fact that he had showcased essential traits of a captain for making the right changes during the Delhi encounter. “When you win a match against one of the best teams in the world, it helps in boosting your confidence and Mahmudullah had shown great qualities of a captain including the changes he made during the match,” Irfan Pathan said while speaking at the Nerolac Cricket Live show on Star Sports.

With the way, Mahmudullah led the side by using part-time bowlers especially after the power play overs, there were flashes of MS Dhoni’s captaincy. “There was a hint of Mahendra Singh Dhoni in his captaincy as he also used part-time bowlers after the power play which is a strategy often used by Dhoni,” he added.

Mushfiqur Rahim was the main man for his team during his team’s victory over India in the T20I opener. Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh praised Mushfiqur Rahim for his potential to play both spin and pace bowling in the best possible way.

“Mushfiqur Rahim is a player with a lot of experience, his ability to play both spin and pace bowling is great and he has the maximum responsibility in the Bangladesh squad in terms of batting which gives him an edge over Mahmudullah who is also a good player for the Bangladesh team,” said Harbhajan.
