Indian ace batsman, Virat Kohli’s weakness against leg-spinners, resurfaced yet again in the ongoing first ODI against New Zealand at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. After Adam Zampa had Kohli’s number twice in Australia’s tour of India in the previous month, Ish Sodhi made him his victim by bowling a beautiful delivery to dislodge his middle and leg stump. Kohli departed for 51 off 63 balls that included six boundaries, having struggled to get going initially.
The dismissal and a massive breakthrough in the form of the 31-year old came for the Kiwis in the 28th over. Debutants Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw added 50 for the first wicket before Kohli and Shreyas Iyer joined hands to stitch a century stand.

In the 28th over, as their partnership was at 102 and growing, Sodhi bowled a ripping leg-break that spun past the inside edge of the visiting captain’s bat to clatter into the middle and leg stump.
The dismissal left the Delhi batsman in absolute disbelief as he stood there for a minute before heading back to the pavilion.
Eventually, the Men in Blue finished their innings at a mammoth 348, needing New Zealand to pull off one of the highest chases against India. The partnership of 136 between Iyer and KL Rahul was indeed a game-changing one that powered the tourists to a formidable total. After Iyer’s departure, Rahul also shared a breezy partnership of 55 with Kedar Jadhav to remain unbeaten at 88 off 64 balls. Iyer top-scored with 103.
