South Africa’s new ODI captain, Quinton de Kock has made it clear that the Proteas aren’t fazed by the English challenge. Considering the demolition of the South African team by the Britishers in the recently held Test series, this statement seems very bold. England thrashed South Africa 3-1 in the four-match Test series. This served as further humiliation for South Africa, who are already having a rough patch in international cricket.

The Proteas are going through a transition at the moment. They had a horrendous performance at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The team finished on the seventh position losing five out of the nine games that they played. Which cost Faf du Plessis the ODI captaincy recently.

Quinton de Kock Gives A Bold Statement

The newly-appointed ODI captain has now made some bold claims. Speaking to the media, before the first ODI, De Kock said, “It is just like playing any other team.” He further added, “Just because you have a World Cup doesn’t change anything. It is still the normal England team we will play against.”

This statement has surfaced at a time when South African cricket has not had a good run, especially in the last year. However, De Kock looks forward to the future and hopes that his team can pull off some amazing performances in the coming times. “We have new guys that have come in and they bring a lot of energy. We have guys who will potentially make their debut, so the team is very excited,” he said.

“We are in a rebuilding phase and we are looking forward to the next World Cup squad. We want to give the opportunities to youngsters and help them grow as cricketers,” the new captain added.
