Rohit Sharma was caught off-guard before coming in to bat in the Super Over. The India opener hit a fluent 40-ball 65, with the help of three sixes and six fours. With 2 runs to get off 4 deliveries, not many expected New Zealand to lose a game from that position. But that is what exactly happened as Mohammed Shami conceded a mere one run in the next four deliveries and bagged the wickets of Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor.
“Everything was packed. All my stuff was inside my bag. I had to get it out. It literally took me five minutes to find my abdomen guard because I didn’t know where it was,” Rohit said. Deputy to Virat Kohli, Rohit once again stamped his authority in the white-ball format.

India needed 10 runs off the last two deliveries in the Super Over and the batter hit two consecutive sixes to seal the fate of the game. “I mean we never thought it would go to the Super Over, the way they were batting at one point. It looked like they could easily win the game,” he added.
Batting first, the visitors posted 179/5 on the board. The Blackcaps did well in the second half after India went ballistic in the first 10 overs. Hamish Bennett proved to be a bit expensive but he did bag three wickets.
Chasing 180, The Kiwis got off to a good start. But they lost both their openers in a span of seven runs. Skipper Williamson took matters in his own hands and played a gem of an inning. The right-hander hit a 48-ball 95 but couldn’t get support from the other end. A third consecutive loss meant that Virat Kohli’s men have now clinched the series with two games to play.
