Former Karnataka player J Arunkumar has applied for the role of India’s batting coach. The current coaching staff of the Indian team will be out of contract at the end of the upcoming tour of West Indies. Their contract was set to end at the end of the World Cup before BCCI handed them a 45-day extension. The current coaching staff comprises Ravi Shastri as head coach, Sanjay Bangar as batting and assistant coach, Bharat Arun as bowling coach and R Sridhar as fielding coach.

The BCCI has already invited applications from the candidates who wish to serve Team India, J Arunkumar has now thrown his hat into the ring to become India’s next batting coach according to The Times of India. Arun Kumar is one of the most experienced coaches in domestic circuit. He also served as the batting coach of Kings XI Punjab in 2017 before taking over as the head coach of Hyderabad Ranji Trophy team.

J Arunkumar enjoyed his most successful stint with the Karnataka side. He coached Karnataka to the treble of domestic titles – Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Irani Cup – for two years in succession in 2013-14 and 2014-15. Currently, he is the coach of Puducherry state team.

The former Karnataka batsman, who scored 7208 runs in first-class cricket, fulfils all the criteria to become India’s batting coach. As per the criteria, the candidates should have coached a team for a minimum of two years and should be below 60.

India’s next batting coach will have his task cut out. India’s middle-order has been their achilles heel for quite some time now and sorting out that issue would be the biggest challenge for the new coach. The team is currently gearing up for the tour of Caribbeans where they will play three ODIs, three T20Is and two Tests.
