India’s home season could have some changes due to the suspension of Zimbabwe Cricket. The ICC, on Thursday, suspended the Zimbabwe Cricket with immediate effect due to political interference in the board’s administrations.  The ICC also froze the funds to Zimbabwe Cricket and barred any representative team from Zimbabwe to play in any ICC tournament.

Consequently, Zimbabwe are unlikely to play in the World T20 Qualifier in October. The suspension has also cast serious doubts on their limited overs away series against India in January next year. The BCCI is in no hurry to take a decision on the issue and will wait till October to consider a back-up plan. India are scheduled to play three T20s in Guwahati on January 5, Indore on January 7 and Pune on January 10 against the African country.

“Right now, we are not really thinking of any back-up plan. We will wait for the ICC quarterly meeting on October 16. Since they have been given three months to get their house in order, it is only prudent that we wait,” a senior BCCI official told PTI.

The ICC has directed that the Zimbabwe Cricket board originally elected in mid-June be reinstated to office within three months, and progress in this respect will be considered again at the next board meeting in October. Perhaps this has what made BCCI wait till October before taking a decision.

The official said that the BCCI is hopeful of Zimbabwe getting the clearance from the ICC or else the board will have to look for new option.

“Yes, that’s our dedicated home window. We hope they get their house in order or else we will have to have some plans in place,” he said.

In case, Zimbabwe do not get the clearance, the BCCI will have to check the availability of any other full-member nation. The scheduled series against Zimbabwe will be followed by a mini limited overs series against Australia.
