Jammu and Kashmir, the politically-troubled state is going to have its own team in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL), according to the newly-appointed governor, Satya Pal Malik.
However, the report in Kashmir dailies suggested Malik has been in touch with IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla. He wants to persuade Shulka to have a team for J&K besides hosting some IPL matches back home.
“I am working with IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla on the idea of having an IPL team for J&K. Very soon IPL matches will be played in J&K,” Malik said.
Moreover, J&K have introduced some of the greatest cricketers. However, the state is plagued by political turmoil. Eventually, there are three cricketers from J&K who have been a part of IPL in different seasons. The state does not have its team, as of now.
Parvez Rasool belongs to the southern part of Kashmir region, who was selected in Team India for Zimbabwe series way back in 2013. He was also a part of the much-celebrated league for some time.
Furthermore, Manzoor Ahmad Dar, Aka Manzoor Pandav was bought in for INR 20 lakh by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) for the 2018 edition.
Manzoor, who is a Twenty20 specialist, is known for hitting prowess.
However, Mithun Manhas, who is also a native of Jammu, is a successful first-class player. He also played for multiple teams in the domestic professional T20 League.
Furthermore, in the last month, Qamran Iqbal, a 17-year-old cricketer from Srinagar’s Safakadal area has been selected in the India B and Under-19 team.
The resident of the old Srinagar city, Qamran made it to the Quadrangular series following remarkable performances.
However, four teams are participating in the series including Under-19 teams from Afghanistan. Nepal and two Indian Under-19 teams (India A and India B) are also the participants of the series.
