West Indies captain Jason Holder has sympathised with Jofra Holder after the England paceman faced racial abuse on social media. Archer, who looked in good touch in the second innings of the Southampton Test, was barred from playing the second Test at Old Trafford after breaching code of conduct in a bio-secure environment.

A spokesperson from the English board had said that Jofra Archer breached the code of conduct while travelling between the Ageas Bowl and Emirates Old Trafford as he stopped on the way to his flat at Brighton. He, however, apologised later for his mistake.

Holder said that humans make mistake and it is important that Archer learns from it. Recalling the racial abuse Archer faced in New Zealand, Holder said that it would be traumatizing for the English paceman to face such events again and again. Holder also wants people to unite behind him and support as much as possible.

“People are humans and make mistakes and it’s just important we all learn from Jofra’s mistake and appreciate the severity of the situation. We all know Jofra well from his time growing up in Barbados and let me tell you he’s a really good guy. He’s also young and I’m sure he didn’t mean to harm anyone,” Holder wrote in a column on Daily Mail.

“I sympathise with him. I read his column and you don’t want to see what has gone on with Jofra happening to anyone. For him to have been racially abused in New Zealand last winter and for it now to be resurfacing would traumatise any individual.

“More than ever, now is the time for us all to unite behind him and show as much support as we can. We need to eradicate racism and abuse and anything we as a West Indies team can do to help him we will do. We all need to put our heads together to see what can be done.”

Archer has been fined and cleared to play in the third Test.
