Premier India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, on Sunday, rubbished claims that he made it to the national team on the back of his brilliant performances for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Jasprit Bumrah broke into the national team in 2016 but in the preceding IPL seasons he was not a regular. After making his debut in the lucrative tournament in 2013, he only played 17 matches in three seasons.
Bumrah, was, however a regular for Gujarat on the domestic circuit. In 2015, he performed brilliantly for his domestic side and helped them clinch the Vijay Hazare trophy in December. The Ahmedabad fast bowler had picked up a five-wicket haul in the final.

Jasprit Bumrah rubbishes claims calling it a ‘myth’
Jasprit Bumrah cleared the air about his selection in the national team during a live session with former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh on Instagram. He called the claims a ‘myth’ and went to explain how his domestic performances helped him to grab a place in the national team squad.
“I made it to the Indian team by my performances in the IPL is a myth. 2013 is when I came into the IPL (for Mumbai Indians) then 2013, 2014, 2015 I was not playing regularly,” Bumrah told Yuvraj Singh.

“I did well in (Vijay) Hazare and in domestic circuit then I came into the Indian team in 2016. You have to play Test cricket to survive in the long run,” he added.
Since making his debut for the national team in 2016, Bumrah has been a vital cog across formats. He has grown up to become arguably the finest fast bowlers of the current generation and is ever reliable in the death overs. The 26-year-old has been disciplined with his spell and picked up 68 wickets in Tests, 104 in ODIs and 59 in the shortest format.
