Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad has come down hard at his country’s Prime Minister Imran Khan for a variety of reasons. In an interview with Cricket Pakistan, Javed Miandad specifically pointed out installing foreigners and clueless individuals for top-notch positions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Imran Khan became the Prime Minister of Pakistan on the 17th of August.

Javed Miandad and Imran Khan were arguably amongst the greatest cricketers produced by Pakistan. The duo shared several significant partnerships during their playing days, including the one at the 1992 World Cup final against England. Skipper Khan and Miandad combined for a 139-run stand after early losses that resulted in the nation’s first-ever World Cup victory.

Javed Miandad underlined that the officials in the PCB do not know how to govern the sport. The 63-year old revealed his intention of speaking to Imran Khan about this personally and criticised installing Wasim Khan as the CEO, who happens to be a foreigner. Instead, the 124-Test veteran wants the Prime Minister to elect someone from the country.

All officials in the PCB do not know the ABC of the sport. I will talk to Imran Khan personally about the sad state of affairs. I will not leave anyone that is not right for our country. You have brought a person [Wasim Khan] from abroad, if he steals from us how will you even catch him? Has everyone in Pakistan passed away that you needed someone from the outside? I want the people of Pakistan to rise. If you don’t have a better person in the entire country than you should look to the outside, but that is not the case,” the Karachi-born cricketer stated.

Miandad went on to slam the ending of departmental cricket in Pakistan, saying he wants the current cricketers to have a sound future. The dumping of departments has left the players unemployed that has not favoured in finding employment for themselves.

The players that are currently playing should have a big future in cricket. I don’t want these players to end as laborers in the future. They have left players unemployed after dumping the departments and now they cannot offer employment themselves. I was saying this before as well but they didn’t understand,” he added.

Miandad also claimed that he was the one who controlled the team and not Imran Khan, despite wearing the captain’s hat. He called for the Prime Minister to think twice about the people at the PCB before it’s too late.

I was your [Imran Khan’s] captain, not the other way around. I was the one who pulled your strings. You think no one other than you knows about cricket. You should start thinking about yourself and your surroundings. You should start thinking about the people you have kept in the PCB before it’s too late,” Miandad added further.
