The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League was expected to break all the records as far as viewership is concerned, and if BCCI secretary Jay Shah is to be believed, the opening game between Mumbai Indians [MI] and Chennai Super Kings [CSK] have already set an unprecedented record.

Jay Shah took to his official Twitter account on Tuesday, where he revealed that an unprecedented 20 crore (200 million) people tuned into Star Sports and Disney Hotstar to watch defending champions Mumbai Indians locks with the MS Dhoni-led CSK.

As per BARC, this is the highest-ever opening day viewership for any sporting league in the country.

“Opening match of #Dream11IPL sets a new record! As per BARC, an unprecedented 20crore people tuned in to watch the match. Highest ever opening day viewership for any sporting league in any country- no league has ever opened as big as this. @IPL @SGanguly99 @UShanx @DisneyPlusHS” Jay Shah wrote on Twitter.

CSK defeated MI in the IPL 2020 opener

The first match of Dream11 IPL 2020 saw the Chennai Super Kings [CSK] beat Mumbai Indians [MI] by five wickets to break their five-match losing streak against the four-time winners.

The win was set-up by brilliant catches by Faf du Plessis and an all-rounder bowling performance by CSK that saw them restrict MI to 9-162.

That target was easily chased down thanks to a 115-run-stand between Ambati Rayudu and Faf du Plessis followed by handy cameos from Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran.
