Saurashtra have named veteran fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat as their skipper for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy starting from September 24. Unadkat has been in good form in recent times and was rewarded with the captaincy.
Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) met on September 10 (Tuesday) to pick the squad for the domestic 50-overs competition. Controversial wicket-keeper batsman Sheldon Jackson has retained his place in the squad. Jackson recently called out the national selectors on social media over their transparency in selecting players for the India A side and Duleep Trophy.
Meanwhile, SCA has also named international cricketers Ravindra Jadeja and Cheteshwar Pujara in the squad. However, their participation is subject to availability. India will prepare for the three-match Test series against South Africa starting from October 2 and it is unlikely that they will feature in any of the matches.
Saurashtra had a poor outing in the last Vijay Hazare Trophy. They had managed to win only three of the eight games they played. Placed in Elite Group A, the team from West India will hope to produce a better display of cricket.
