The jury has been divided over David Warner’s partner for the upcoming Test series against India. Will it be the under-fire incumbent Joe Burns or the red-hot 22-year-old Will Pucovski that ultimately faces the Indian quicks in the opening Test at the Adelaide Oval come December 17?
Former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist recently delved into the debate that has engulfed Australian cricket recently.

While the likes of Mark Taylor, Greg Chappell have batted for Will Pucovski to get the nod ahead of Joe Burns, Gilchrist feels that the Australian think-tank might be reluctant to break the opening duo of Warner and Burns for the opening Test of the summer despite Pucovski’s strong case.
‘It’s only my opinion, but I detect that the selectors and the team really enjoy the partnership of Joe Burns and David Warner,” Gilchrist told foxsports.com.au.
“There is a fair bit of that strong reason in the case of Pucovski. (But) They’ll be reluctant to break that (partnership of Warner and Burns) up without really strong reason. They feel they complement each other and they have a yin and yang partnership,” he added.
Gilchrist further added that the Australia A game against India could well decide who opens alongside David Warner in the Test series.
”It could very much weigh on that Australia A game and what comes of that. Should he (Burns) miss out there and Pucovski nails another big one, the pressure may then be on to make the change,” added Gilchrist.

Meanwhile, the Australian head coach, Justin Langer has indicated that the home side might well persist with Joe Burns in the opening Test.
Burns have come under severe pressure due to his lack of runs in the ongoing Sheffield Shield and back-to-back double tons by Will Pucovski.
