Champion of the inaugural season of the IPL- Rajasthan Royals made some smart buys during the day one of the auctions in Bangalore. The Royals roped in young sensation Sanju Samson, England all-rounder Ben Stokes, reliable Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane but out of all the decision to buy in-form Jos Butler looks like a master-stroke.

Butler, who recently scored a match-winning ton against Australia in the ongoing ODI series down-under, was bought for INR 4.4 crores. The Englishman can be assigned the job of the gloveman apart from making full use of his batting prowess.

Buttler expressed his joy through the micro-blogging site as he tweeted ” Can’t wait to represent Rajasthan Royals in this year’s IPL! Alongside Ben Stokes too”. Clearly, the right-hand batsman looks set for the upcoming season and has already tagged his partner in crime. The Royals had earlier retained Australian skipper Steve Smith.

Hussain backs Buttler to come good

Former England skipper Naseer Hussain felt Buttler’s signing is a ‘steal and that he can fire up the IPL. ‘”I think the best bid, in terms of getting your money’s worth, is Jos Buttler because I think he is the most exciting white-ball finisher – as we saw in the third ODI against Australia,” said Hussain.

“This lad can do absolutely anything, from any situation. Some people might not think $687,000 is a good deal but compared to some in the auction, I think Rajasthan have got an absolute bargain,” he added.

Hussain also expressed his views on Stokes’ theory. There were a lot of rumors on Stokes’ availability and whether he will feature in the majority of the games. “There will have been a little bit of debate around whether it’s worth taking the risk with Ben Stokes but he’s still the sixth-most expensive player on the auction list. Rajasthan Royals have taken the risk because he was the Most Valuable Player in last year’s competition and a three-dimensional cricketer,” he said.
