Jos Buttler One Of The Most Versatile, Best ODI Players: Ben Stokes

England ace Ben Stokes has lavished praise on his teammate Jos Buttler, saying that the wicketkeeper-batsman is one of the most versatile white-ball players in the world at the moment. Ben Stokes pointed out that his mate could not only blow away oppositions by hitting the bowlers all around the park but could also play a knock like the one he played in last year’s World Cup final.

Chasing 242 against New Zealand, England were reeling at 86 for 4 when Ben Stokes and Buttler joined hands in the middle. The two added 110 runs for the fifth wicket to bail their team out of the trouble. While Stokes remained on the crease till the final ball of the innings, Buttler was out after scoring a composed 59 off 60 balls.

“For me he is one of the most versatile and best ODI players in the world right now. You know he can destroy you; he can hit you 360 but he can also play innings like that in the World Cup final. To have that skill set as an ODI player is an absolute nightmare for an opposition captain or bowler,” Ben Stokes said during a chat with Rajasthan Royals spin consultant and New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi in The Royals Podcast Episode 5.

England had gone on to beat New Zealand on boundaries count to win their first-ever World Cup. Both the teams ended up with the same score after the 100 overs and then the super overs. England were then declared winner for hitting more number of boundaries.

As far as Ben Stokes is concerned, he had a scintillating 2019. He helped England win the World Cup and then draw the Ashes. He scored 465 runs in the World Cup with the help of five fifties including one in the final against New Zealand.  In the third Ashes Test, he scored a stunning 135 as England registered a miraculous win by chasing down an improbable target of 356.
