Australia head coach Justin Langer wants his player to tour England to maintain the health of cricket and participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. Justin Langer is also anticipating the Australia to host India in the four-Test series which will take place from December to January next year.
However, Langer hinted that he is confused with the varying reports, which suggests that IPL 2020 will be hosted in overseas conditions with some saying the entire tournament will be played in Mumbai. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, however, rubbished such ‘BCCI source’ based reports and said that the board is not thinking about various plans and are sticking to the wait and watch policy.
Langer said that once there is a clarity on IPL and if it does not affects the domestic seasons or their quarantine situations the Australian players will be allowed to participate in the lucrative tournament.
“I think we have to. Talking frankly,” Justin Langer told The Daily Telegraph.
“I hear a different story about the IPL’s plans every few days. It varies. So until there’s some clarity and we can work out how it affects the domestic season, how it affects our players, how it works with quarantine … there’s a lot of considerations here.
“But if we want India to come out to Australia, which is going to be very important to get the summer up and running … it’s not a normal world we live in and we’ll look for win-win situations.
“I’ll always look for win-win situations and hopefully we do that when we get some clarity on what’s happening with the schedule.”
The final decision on IPL 2020 relies on the fate of the 2020 T20 World Cup which is to be decided by the global governing council on Friday. It is likely that the marquee tournament will be called off opening space for IPL.
Earlier on Wednesday, the 2020 Asia Cup was confirmed to be called off by Ganguly and PCB chief Ehsan Mani.
