Kamlesh Nagarkoti, the prodigiously talented fast bowler from Uttar Pradesh, was hailed as the next big thing in Indian cricket thanks to his rapid pace and accuracy and his exploits in the Prithvi Shaw-led ‘Boys in Blue’ triumphant 2018 U-19 World Cup campaign in New Zealand.

Nagarkoti [9 wickets in 6 games at 16.33], along with his partner-in-crime Shivam Mavi [9 wickets in 6 games at 18.89], was one of the major reasons behind Team India knocking over batting attacks for fun in the quadrennial event. The duo’s performance came at a time when the Indian Premier League auction was about to be held and, as expected, a bidding war ensued among the franchises to bag the services of the talented fast bowlers.

Ultimately, the Shah Rukh Khan co-owned Kolkata Knight Riders won the bidding war, resulting in Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi bagging lucrative contracts worth Rs 3.2 and 3 Crore respectively.

The world was at its feet for Kamlesh Nagarkoti before tragedy struck in the form of injury that proceeded to rule him out from the 2018 and 2019 edition of the IPL.

Nagarkoti was out of contention but the Knight Riders management kept their faith in the Uttar Pradesh bowler by retaining him for consecutive seasons and now that he has attained full fitness, the 20-year-old tearaway fast bowler is rearing to go in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League and repay the trust shown by his franchise.

In a video posted by the official Twitter account of Kolkata Knight Riders [KKR], Kamlesh Nagarkoti also spoke about the franchise backroom staff member and former cricketer Abhishek Nayar helped him during his training in Mumbai.

“I’m very excited as I’ve waited two years for this moment. Finally, I have the opportunity to play. So I’m very excited. I was practicing in Mumbai and speaking regularly with Abhishek bhaiya on how I should prepare mentally after the injury. He has already made me understand some things, and I always pay attention to what he says.”

In the same video, Shivam Mavi spoke about his back injury that did not allow him to play cricket in the past 12 months, adding that he is completely fit and rearing to go in the upcoming edition of the IPL. Mavi has thus far represented KKR in 9 IPL games [in 2018].
