Karun Nair was left out of the Indian squad for the Test series against the Windies, and MSK Prasad said on Monday that the player himself had been told the reasons.

Karun Nair, India and Karnataka middle-order batsman, recently opened up about the pressure of the tag of being India’s second triple-centurion and also about the lack of opportunities that have followed since that miraculous feat.

Karun Nair made history on 19th December 2016 when he became only the second Indian batsman after Virender Sehwag and 26h overall to scale Mount. 300 in Test match cricket.

Nair scored a whirlwind 303 in the 5th Test at Chepauk against England, helping India to their highest-ever total in Test history [759]. The 29-year-old recently gave an interview to timesnewsnow.com where he opened up about the miraculous feat and the pressure that came with it.

“I don’t think it is too much of a tag. It is definitely not a burden. It is, in fact, something which I can look upon and always go back and feel proud of. It is something that is never going to go away from me, so you need to look only at the positives,” Karun Nair said.

Karun Nair was dropped from the side after four more Test appearances and despite him being in the squad for the Test series in England in the summer of 2018, other players outside the original squad were given chances ahead of the Karnataka batsman.

While he lamented on the fact that he hasn’t got an adequate amount of opportunities, the Karnataka batsman accepted that he needs to be a consistent performer at the domestic level to stake a claim in the national sides’s playing XI.

“Honestly, the comeback has not happened and I have not got many chances from thereon. But for that to happen, whenever I have come back to domestic cricket, I have not been consistent enough to put up my hand and say that ‘I need to be playing in the XI’. It is important for me to consistently score runs at domestic cricket. Selection is not in one’s control, so I have to pounce on every opportunity and make them count big time,” he added.
