England legend Kevin Pietersen has put their current Test bowling line-up in focus, asking a valiant question. Senior fast bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad do not have many years left in their playing careers and in this situation England lack quality bowlers who can fill in their boots.

Mark Wood has shown he has plenty of pace but injuries have kept him out while Jofra Archer has proved his potential but even the start of his career for England has been marred with few injuries. James Anderson is in the twilight zone of his career and probably has a year or two left.

In February 2002, Anderson had broke a rib in the second Test against South Africa but vowed to comeback stronger. In unceremonious situations like these, England need a reliable fast bowler, especially in the longest format which they lack.

When Stuart Broad, James Anderson go there’s going to be a big gap: Kevin Pietersen

Kevin Pietersen highlighted the concern saying there will be a big gap when James Anderson and Stuart Broad retire as they are the last set of legs available. Talking about Wood and Jofra as the potential replacements, Pietersen said that they are full of injuries.

“I am worried about England’s test team, when Broad and Anderson go. They are on their last legs at the moment,” Pietersen told Reuters in an interview.

“If Broad and Anderson go, there’s going to be a big, big gap to fill. Do they have the bowlers?

“Mark Wood is very good, however he’s full of injuries. And Jofra Archer, he’s also had that elbow injury during that South African series, so he hardly played.

“So it will be about how quickly England can fill that gap because … if you can’t take 20 wickets in the test match you really are behind the eight ball,” he added.

Anderson is the leading Test wicket-taker for England with 584 wicket from 151 matches while his new-ball partner Broad has picked up 485 wickets from 131 matches.
