Kings XI Punjab sustained their third consecutive loss against Chennai Super Kings in Dubai on Sunday and fourth overall in IPL 2020. Kings XI Punjab suffered a battering at the hands of Shane Watson and Faf Du Plessis, who successfully chased down 179 without losing a wicket with more than two overs to spare. With that comprehensive defeat, KXIP slipped to the last position, which Virender Sehwag is their rightful place.

Kings XI Punjab began their IPL 2020 campaign with a narrow defeat to Delhi Capitals in the super over. However, they soon bounced back by beating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 97 runs on the back of their skipper KL Rahul’s hundred. KXIP moved on to Sharjah to concede the highest successful run-chase to Rajasthan Royals in IPL history after which Mumbai Indians inflicted yet another loss.

Virender Sehwag claimed that the margin of defeat against CSK, which was by ten wickets, consigned Kings XI Punjab to a position which they deserve. It was also the first time this season that a team batting second won in Dubai and according to Sehwag, only a side like KXIP could pull that off.

CSK won the match by 10 wickets and consigned Kings XI Punjab to the last position in the points table, which is actually their place. This is the first time this year that the side batting first in Dubai lost. This is a feat only Punjab can pull off,” Sehwag said in a video shared on his Facebook page.

At the same time, the former KXIP opener admitted that 179 was not a low score and that their bowling line-up could sometimes become a massive flaw. The 41-year old recalled that on Chris Jordan’s birthday, all he could do was give return gifts in advance in exchange of birthday bumps from CSK.

Yet 179 is not a low score, but the thing is that the Kings XI Punjab bowling is sometimes its own worst enemy and the opposition batting’s best friend. Yesterday was Chris Jordan’s birthday and he gave the return gifts in advance while getting only birthday bumps from CSK,” he added.
