Gujarat Titans (GT) Lockie Ferguson showed great athleticism to take a rather difficult catch of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Andre Russell to seal the win for his team in the 34th match of the IPL 2022 which was played on April 23, 2022.
Batting first after winning the toss, Gujarat Titans managed 156/9 in 20 overs with captain Hardik Pandya contributing 67 runs in 49 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. David Miller contributed 27 runs as well. However, the total which looked to cross 180 at one time was brilliantly controlled by Tim Southee (3/24) and Andre Russell (4/5).
In reply, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) got off to the worst start possible. Barring Shreyas Iyer’s 12, none of the other batters in the top four got to the double figures mark. It was Andre Russell who made 48 in 25 balls and kept the KKR in the game throughout the latter half of the innings.
He even brought the equation down to 18 runs in the last 6 balls, but he was dismissed on the second ball of the over bowled by Alzarri joseph and KKR could only manage 148/8 and lost the match by 8 runs.

Russell started the last over with a bang, hitting a six, but Joseph came back strong with the next ball. He bowled a short ball, tucking Russell in. He still managed to play the pull shot and got more height than distance. Ferguson ran to his left and misjudged it by running in.
However, he recovered well and took a catch behind him while taking a tumble. And with his wicket, KKR’s hopes of an outside win ended.
