Kiwi pacer Southee bowled a slower ball on a length, angling in and Hardik played a pull shot but didn’t have a great connection with the ball and the ball went up in the air. Kolkata Knight Riders player Rinku Singh, who was at deep mid-wicket, was able to take a forward diving catch to dismiss the Gujarat Titans skipper.

Earlier, Gujarat Titans (GT) won the toss and opted to bat first. The sole change in the GT playing XI was the comeback of captain Hardik and he replaced all-rounder Vijay Shankar in the playing XI.

On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made three huge changes due to niggles as Aaron Finch, Pat Cummins and Sheldon Jackson were out and Tim Southee, Rinku Singh and Sam Billings were added to the playing XI.

Gujarat Titans lost an early wicket in the match as Shubman Gill, after playing good strokes in the first over, got dismissed by Southee on the first ball of the second over for 7. At the end of the powerplay, Gujarat Titans were at 47/1 with Hardik on 21 runs off 17 balls and Wriddhiman Saha 16 runs off 14 deliveries.

Saha, who was struggling to accelerate his innings, was dismissed by pacer Umesh Yadav on the third ball of the 11th over. Gujarat Titans reached the 100 runs mark in the 13th over. In the end, KKR all-rounder Andre Russell bagged 4 wickets in the last over to restrict Gujarat Titans to 156/9.
